Candace, Why Should I Hire A Stylist?
This is something I’m asked rather frequently, which is only natural given that I’m a stylist! Over the years, I’ve have had the opportunity to connect with lots various individuals, and I have found that there are really two general schools of thought that bring an individual to the conclusion that they need stylist expertise.
First School of Thought: I HAVE NO CLUE.
The first school of thought belongs to a person who feels completely lost. Common messaging includes, “I have no clue what looks good on me. I don’t have a style.” In my personal opinion this really boils down to this lack of understanding of their shape/silhouette and not understanding their style DNA. Overwhelm and uncertainty often loom around and can even make the initial reach out a hard one emotionally and mentally. But this is where a stylist comes in to help, guide and listen to what the client is ultimately hoping for.
Second School of Thought: I like Fashion & Style, but what to explore DEEPERS.
The second school of thought is the individual who is very much interested in fashion. This is a person who already has a sense of what they love when it comes to fashion and styling, but they are looking for someone to help them bring some depth to their wardrobe. They desire that push, variation and fresh ideas. A good stylist will be able to take what this individual already knows and loves about fashion and expand their wardrobe further!
Both of these are absolutely valid reasons to work with a stylist, it really just depends on where you are!
If you’re in that first group as someone who needs a little bit of foundational help, a wardrobe stylist is going to meet you exactly where you are. They’ll provide you with exactly that: a foundational knowledge and insight on what you need for your lifestyle, for your budget, and for what you really need to build a wardrobe that works for YOU. If you’re on the other side of the coin and you feel like you already know what you love, that stylist is going to meet you where you are. They’ll provide that level up or that value add that you need to feel like your wardrobe is truly unique, different, and functional.
I do think it’s really important to note that the number one job of a stylist is to listen, and listen very intently. There is truly no one-size-fits-all type of situation when it comes to styling an individual. That said, it is critical that the stylist really hears and meets each unique need while working through a process. This is one of the things I really love about Wardrobe Therapy. We are really process-driven to ensure that our client, no matter what their need is, we providing that through a process that is sequential and measurable.
