GRATITUDE
Thankfulness. It’s something that we think about in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. But truthfully, thankfulness should be a part of our daily heart posture. Being the busy bee that I am, it can be hard for me to maintain a place of gratitude and thankfulness in my every day. Most days I am flying around like a madwoman, often finding something to complain about or stressing about things that don’t ultimately matter on this side of heaven and forget about the endless things I have to be thankful for. There’s rarely a day that goes by where Jason doesn’t say something along these lines, “Despite the craziness, we have so much to be thankful for.” I usually shut him down real quick, because I don’t want to hear it. I prefer that he kicks “thankfulness” out the front door and sits with me complaining, moping, and stressing...but he doesn’t do that and for that, I am thankful...because a house with two people with my sometimes not so great attitude would just be a nightmare!
As we move into a new season, I am giving prayer journaling a try and making it a part of my daily practice, to not only list where I am struggling or need the Father’s help, but also, to practice daily gratitude. To thank Him for the now. To remind me that thankfulness is one of the many fruits of the Spirit. To remember that living in thankfulness and gratitude is a choice.
So for this year, I am thankful for the opportunity to simply be, to not have it all figured out, for the chaos of life that leads us to heal, and most importantly, I am thankful for second chances and the new mercies that come with those second chances.
I am curious to know what you are thankful for this year! Over on Instagram stories, I am sharing a gratitude writing prompt. I hope you check it out and that it inspires you to reflect on your gratitude posture for this moment and beyond.
EN VERITE,
Candace
