A Life Sans Alcohol⁣✨⁣ .⁣ .⁣ It’s been A Life Sans Alcohol⁣✨⁣
.⁣
.⁣
It’s been nearly 8 years since my husband and I made the choice to live an alcohol free life. What started as an act of obedience, led us to a true lifestyle change that has positively impacted and shaped our lives for the better.  ⁣
.⁣
.⁣
Many of you have asked how we arrived at this decision and today I’m sharing what propelled this abstinence, along with some of my personal story with alcohol. Here’s an excerpt: ⁣
⁣
“It was not until my freshman year of college that I had my first drunken moment…it was blackout status bad. So many things went wrong that night that I could cry just thinking about it. I slept in my car that night, as I was too afraid to be caught by a RA, I remembered thinking how completely idiotic this was and how being too drunk and too afraid to go into my dorm was no proof of maturity…but in actuality, a proof of immaturity. Taking nearly 2 days to rid myself of the worst hangover of my life, I vowed to never drink in that manner again.” ⁣

One thing that pageantry taught me was the importance of a good headshot. It is often a first impression, communicating a piece of who we are without ever saying a word (much like our clothing). For nearly 13 years I’ve gotten a new headshot captured every year or every other year, depending on what was happening. For the first time in those 13 years, I confidently like what I see. Open, honest, assured and proud of who she is becoming. A quiet confidence, while still harnessing boldness in her own way. Feeling thankful for time. For growth and the opportunity of becoming exactly who I was designed to be. ⁣

I just told Jason, if I were to write a book one day, I would use this photo without question 🤍 thank you @theoryimage for the lovely capture. I love that these portraits were unplanned, completely spontaneous...authentic and in the moment. Swipe left to see my first ever pageant headshot..I was like 17 or 18🙈😭🤗⁣

They say dreams come true and I must admit, they do indeed…say hello to @sipclean, an alcohol free #rosé! Nearly 8 years ago, I made the decision to live a life san alcohol. While I was ready to take this life challenge on, I knew that I would miss wine. Shortly after making this lifestyle change, I remember the blossoming popularity of all things rosé and feeling if I had missed my moment to try the chic pink juice. But it appears that I have not indeed, thanks to #sipclean! This alcohol-removed wine that hails from California is a blend of Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. With just 30 calories and 5 grams of sugar, these 12 oz cans of beautiful rosé are bound to bring you a dose of happiness. And speaking of happiness, I am delighted to be partnering with @SipClean to gift one of YOU a Slip Clean 4 Pack! ⁣

3. And tag a girlfriend that you would enjoy sipping clean with! ⁣

Winner will be announced on Thursday 1/14/21. Cheers! And not to worry, full episode of #MocktailMonday with this pretty drank is happening on IGTV 😘#sipcleanpartner #siphappy #nonalcoholic

Look Up Child.⁣
.⁣
For the weeks leading up to 2021, I felt a quiet nudging in my spirit about expectations at large. I shared about this briefly in my resolutions for the year...to be prepared for the unexpected, because it isn’t a matter of if it will happen, but when. We are just 8 days into this new year and the manifestation of the unexpected has already shown its face. ⁣
.⁣
.⁣
In the natural, I can’t seem to make sense of what is happening, what is unfolding, the seemingly undoing of this place we call home. But as I continue to put my gaze upon Him, call out to Him and wait patiently for His Spirit to speak, all becomes clear. A war is being waged for the soul of America. My heart is weary and vexed, but in the midst of my emotions, I can take comfort in knowing that He knows the beginning from the end, that He is the ruler over human kingdoms, that He has overcome the World. ⁣
.⁣
.⁣
In our humanness, I know there are many questions, longing to understanding why things are the way they are. I believe it all goes back to the garden, the choices we make daily to either live from the tree of life or the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. I know that many are hoping for 2021 to be better than the year before, but I feel strongly in my spirit that we need to lower those expectations and understand that we might continue to see the ugliness of the enemy manifested in ways we’ve never seen before. As a country, as a world, we have entered into a season of societal birthing pains. As we know with birth, as the contractions get closer together, the pain intensifies, but at the end there is such beauty. There is life. So in this season of uncertainty, questions, weariness, look up child and know, that God will allow things to happen to prove His strength, to prove that He is a necessity, to prove that He is still Lord. Don’t lose sight of that. #candacetruths
That 8 letter social media cuss word…UNFOLLOW ⁣✨
.⁣
.⁣
Social media. Where do I even begin. A tool that is great in so many ways and yields such positive impact, but also a tool that shapes negative behaviors and responses. It is truly a double edged sword. Perhaps one of the things that I have come to greatly dislike about social media, in particular Instagram, is the unspoken shame that happens when we unfollow someone. It is not shame evoked by others, but a shame we directly place on ourselves for needing to follow someone…that need to justify to ourselves why we are unfollowing that person…to have a statement prepared for when that person comes to confront us as to why we unfollowed them. Ugh, it’s just the worst and I have been there. What’s even more interesting is there are now elements on Instagram where you can just mute or softly unfollow someone, without actually unfollowing them. A passive way of avoiding (or hiding from) the act that you just need to do, because it is best for you mentally and emotionally.
.⁣
.⁣
As I’ve continued to dig into inner healing, I have realized how this continual mindfulness of social following and unfollowing plays into a bigger issue…PEOPLE PLEASING. Doing things based on the expectations of how others might perceive us if we don’t follow them. It’s pretty wild and truly a mind game. I believe that people pleasing in this way doesn’t just affect us and how we interact on social media, but then plays out in our actual lives…creating this unhealthy fixation on how we are perceived when we need to do something for ourselves, but rather than prioritizing ourself and our emotional needs, we prioritize the perceived emotional needs of others. ⁣
.⁣
.⁣
Late last year, I made a vow to be more intentional here and who I am following. To follow because I am truly inspired. Because the follow feeds my soul positivity. Because the follow fuels me to live a more well-fashioned life, be that mind, body and soul. CONTINUED IN COMMENTS • #candacetruths #livingwellfashioned
